The reconstruction of Robinson

The National Museum of Computing (TNMOC , www.tnmoc.org) in the UK has recently launched a new project with the aim to “recreate” Robinson, which is considered to be the predecessor of Colossus, the codebreaking machine that largely contributed to the victory of Allied Forces in World War Two. (www.tnmoc.org/special-projects/robinson).

Robinson was intended to make the first attempts at the “industrialisation” of codebreaking. Only partial success was achieved, and the problems that had emerged during development brought an end to project. H

To remain faithful to historical facts, it should be stated that both machines had played their part in the mechanisation of decoding Lorenz messages.
